Abu Simbel Temples

abusimbeltemples.jpg

These two massive temples are loctaed in Nubia, Southern Egypt. They were built as a lasting monument to Pharoah Ramses II and his wife Nefertari. The two temples were originally carved into a mountainside, but had to be moved to an artificial hill in the 1960s when a large reservoir (Lake Nasser) was created. (How on earth would you go about moving two ginormous rock temples? The mind boggles!)
