Upon his release from jail, Jose agrees to meet Carmen at the tavern of Lilas Pastia, a popular meeting place where lots of drinking, singing and dancing goes on. While she is waiting for Jose, Carmen meets Escamillo, a renowned bullfighter who entertains the crowd with tales of his profession.
